Basic Compulsory Courses/Statistics and Practicum/Professor Yu-Pin Hu
This course aims to cultivate students' core competencies and integration abilities. It is designed as an introductory statistics course for undergraduate students, requiring a foundation in elementary calculus. The learning content focuses on the application of statistical theory, aiming to understand the implications behind data, identify optimal combinations, predict outcomes, or assist in decision-making through measurement of data and recognition and control of uncertainty.
The teaching method primarily involves lectures by the instructor, supplemented by course presentations. The instructor uses everyday life examples to illustrate concepts, helping students better relate to when statistics might be used. Interaction with students during class enhances understanding, and students are also taught to use statistical analysis software for hands-on practice. Finally, there is an opportunity at the end of the semester to invite alumni who have graduated to introduce students to the practical applications of statistics in the workplace.
